Stanley Planes [CLICK TO ORDER]

  1. STANLEY NO. 1 SMOOTH PLANE, Sweetheart trademark on the full-length cutter. 92% of the japanning on the body. Rosewood low knob and handle are crisp. The handle has a sliver off of the top left side.
    This one has been used, but not abused. There has been speculation that carpenters that used a No. 1 held it across the top instead of trying to use the handle and knob. The wear-patterns on this one support that theory, G+ ........ $1425.00

  2. STANLEY NO. 2 SMOOTH PLANE, Notched-rectangle logo on the cutter with about 1 3/4 inches of meat left. Almost all of the japanning on the body remains. The nickel plating on the cap is very nice. Rosewood tall knob and handle have a few chips to the finish. There is some minor patina on the bare metal surfaces from age, Fine ....... $395.00

  22. STANLEY NO. 5 1/4 JUNIOR JACK PLANE, Made in USA trademark on the cutter which has 1 3/4 inches of meat left. Because of the number 247 on the back of the cutter, I believe this plane was made in 1947. 97% of the japanning remains. Crisp rosewood handle and tall knob have some tool-box dings to the finish. Some minor etching to the sole will be OK, but could be easily lapped out. Has been lightly cleaned, G++ .... Sold $105.00

Almost all of the japanning remains, except it is dull in the back probably because it was cleaned with an abrasive. The rosewood handle and tall knob are crisp with some chipping to the finish.   33. STANLEY NO. 20, CIRCULAR PLANE, Early nickel plated model. (18)92 patent date on the cutter, 2-7-(18)93 patent date cast in the body. The heaviest circular plane made by Stanley. It's considered the best one for using. 95% nickel plating remains. There is some stain on the top of the sole from age. The bottom is a lot nicer. An early nickel-plated one with the ivy design on the handle. STANLEY NO. 92, CABINET MAKER'S RABBET PLANE, This is a type I, with the 3.13.1900 patent date on the cutter, ant the bottom front is hollow with a separate plate pinned to the sides. 3/4 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches long.     Hahn was apparently influenced by Siegley, although there is no known connection.
    Aside from an unusual lateral adjuster, the main feature seems to be that the chip-breaker is attached to the cap. Almost all of the japanning remains. Some patina on the bare metal surfaces, G+ ........ $235.00

This is a nice example of the No. 6-size jointer plane made by a respectable company. There is a chip on the side of the mahogany handle. There is a short beaded knob. 92% of the japanning remains.   5. UNION MFG. CO. NO. X-8, JOINTER PLANE, No. 8 size. Pat. 12.8.(19)03 cast in the bed. The X-series planes have an adjustment lever that locks between two brass nuts. Thick-tapered cutter has 1 1/2 inches of meat left. 96% japanning is a little grimy in places. Mahogany handle and low knob have some tool-box dings. There's some patina on the bare metal surfaces. Complete with spurs, both depth stops, and a complete set of 10 cutters, and the slitter. The skewed cutters work great, especially for dados. 80% of the nickel plating remains, but it's a bit dusty and dirty. The cutters need a bit of lapping and sharpening, and they will be ready to go. Boxed STANLEY NO. 50 LIGHT COMBINATION PLANE, Complete with 2 depth stops, the usually-missing cutter holding screw and shaving deflector, and 17 cutters (9 plow, 6 beading and 1 match) that have had very little use (only two have been sharpened) - they have some dirt and original cosmoline on them, in their blue-labeled Stanley box. The plane has about 99% of its nickel plating. The rosewood handle has some light scuffs to the finish. In the original box, which it a little rough, Fine++ ........ $265.00

  7. STANLEY NO. 55 COMBINATION PLANE. Sweetheart logo on the skate and cutter boxes. With this plane you can make an almost unlimited variety of moldings. Complete with long and short rods, 3 depth stops, auxiliary center bottom, cam, and a total of 55 cutters in their original boxes.
    The cutters are in nice, crisp condition. There are a few spots of stain from storage for over 70 years. Honing them on the flat side while sharpening will clean that up.
    The plane was used very little... 98% of the nickel plating remains, with minor dirt.
    Nice dark rosewood handles and fences.
    The box was owner-made with Stanley labels attached. The instructions for the No. 55 may be a reprint, Fine .......... Sold $675.00

  8. STANLEY NO. 55 PLANE CUTTER SET, A complete set of 54 cutters (without slitter, which came on the plane). These are in extremely nice condition. The box top has some tape around the edges.
    Note for No. 45 users: 22 of these cutters are for the No. 45 plane, and the three reeding and four fluting cutters are special cutters for the No. 45. I would assume that the eight hollow and round cutters will work as well on the No. 45 as the No. 55, even though Stanley made attachments for the No. 45, Fine+ ........ Sold $295.00
