BRITISH PLANEMAKERS FROM 1700, 3rd Edition

BRITISH PLANEMAKERS FROM 1700, 3rd Edition

Revised by Jane & Mark Rees

The second edition of British Planemakers by William Goodman, published in 1978, has long been the authoritative reference on the subject. Mark and Jane Rees, with the cooperation of the British Tool Society, have now provided us with a much needed update and revision. This new third edition is completely re-written and is well over twice the length of its predecessor. The biographic directory covers 1650 makers and dealers (versus 880 in the second edition) and includes for the first time over 1600 imprint illustrations. Like its predecessor, the new edition traces the development of British planemaking, but far more extensively, describing and illustrating the many types of planes and tracing their evolution. There is a chapter on the planemaking trade and its practices, and sections on apprentice records, plane iron makers, trade marks, plus a complete index. An absolutely invaluable reference for anyone with interest in the subject. 530 pages. Fully illustrated. 7" x 10". Hard cover .............. This is sold out.
