Davis & Cook Level

Davis & Cook Aluminum Level

This attractive and unusual 24 inch level was one of the earlier tools to be manufactured from aluminum. Pat. Oct 20, 1903 is stamped on a porthole.
It is the second generation of aluminum levels from Davis & Cook. The first one had the same filigree design as the cast iron levels. Only one example of that design exists. Hollow cast with ogee ends and a cross-hatched design on the front and back. It seems to anticipate the style of Art Deco design that became popular a few years later. I think this is one of the most visually striking levels ever produced.
It has some minor tool-box dings, but is in nice condition, G+ ......... $995.00
