J. D. Wilkinson Patent Dividers

There are very few rack-wing divider patents, and, as far as I know, this is the only one that was produced in this country. Not only does the application of this simple mechanical principle make a very functional and elegant design solution, but adding a spring, as Wilkinson did, gives it a quick adjustment feature. An example of 19th century American ingenuity at its finest. Patented June 7, 1877, stamped on the side of the bronze frame, steel points, overall 7 inches long.
