This is the unique drill/ brace from Newark, NJ; patented by Joseph Rusby. He actually had two patents for this drill one on Jan. 27, 1903, for an "extension or extendible brace", and a second version on Dec. 12, 1912.
The second one is much better known, and is the one being sold here. The cast iron top handle of the first version was discarded in favor of a wooden one, and the shaft was made more open with a lattice-like casting.
It is marked "Rusby Pat" and "Newark, NJ." The chuck extends easily from 16 to 25 inches, with a simple push of the release button. Also the crank handle can be extended for more leverage with the push of a button.
This drill is in exceptional condition. Virtually all of the japanning and nickel plating remains. There is some scuffing and a little bit of paint-spatter on the wooden handles, but it is in original, uncleaned condition. This is the nicest one I have ever seen. Fine+ ......... Sold $110.00
