    Framing Squares [CLICK TO ORDER]

    1. STARRETT NO. 110 STAIR GAGE OR FENCE, A long bar that fits across a framing square. It has a 90 degree angle to make a wide face for use. This is the 18 inch model. These are no longer produced. Nickel plated angle-stock with two sliding spring-loaded clips to attach to a framing square. Used to mark stair stringers, rafters, or anytime you need to repeat a consistent angle. This size will do about a 6 by 11 inch inside angle, like for a stair tread, but will leave a much longer end on the other side for rafters, etc.
      Starrett is the only company I know that ever produced something like this. 96% of the nickel plating remains, with some tool-box scratches. Shown on a framing square that is not included, Fine ........... Sold $125.00

    1. BROWN & SHARPE NO. 495, UNIVERSAL BEVEL PROTRACTOR. Well adapted for all classes of work where angles are to be laid. One side is flat so it can be laid flat upon the paper or work. A small thumb pinion will fit on the back to get an extremely fine adjustment. After setting the dial it is clamped by the large thumb nut on the front. The protractor has an owner's name.

    4. STANLEY NO. 1 TRY AND MITER SQUARE. Four inch length. This is the Winterbottom's Patent. Type I with the iron frame handle and black walnut inlay. Has the 1869 and 1874 patent dates stamped in the wood, and the lead fill around the three rivets.

    2. NESTOR'S PATENT CLAPBOARD GAUGE. This over-the-top showy brass and mahogany? gauge was patented on Dec 31, 1867, by John Nester, of Portland, Oregon. Its features include a clapboard marker, to mark the ends of siding to the proper length; a marking gauge; a level; and a 12 inch rule.
      Quite an historically and artistically spectacular early tool for the work it was designed to do. It has some minor tool-box dings, but is still fully functional. Has been lightly cleaned, G++ ............ $215.00

    3. REEVE'S PATENT BUTT GAUGE, A small patented butt gauge with three arms, from the late 1800s, G+ .............. $45.00

    4. ROSEWOOD MORTISE GAUGE, This one is made from rosewood with brass trim. Although it is unmarked, the bulls-eye trim decoration was used by the Chapin Stephens firm. It is in overall very crisp condition with some scuffs along the top of the stem from tightening the fastening screw. Has two brass bars on the face and a brass wear plate on the stem, G+ .............. $50.00

    10. STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. NO. 16 ENGINEER'S SLIDING RULE. 2-foot, 2-fold. Fully-bound boxwood rule from the 2nd-half of the 19th century. This and the No. 6 were the most elaborately marked and graduated of the Stanley rules. This one is the fully brass-bound model.
      The Gunter's slide with scales are used to calculate volume and to perform conversions from different geometrical shapes, including the areas regular polygons of 5 to 12 sides (pentagon, hexagon, etc.) to square inches, and then to the volume of various liquids, like wine, or the weight of many metals, gold, iron, copper, etc.
