Stanley Planes [CLICK TO ORDER]

  1. STANLEY NO. 1 SMOOTH PLANE, J trademark on the cutter and the L. Bailey 1867 mark on the chip breaker dates this one to the 1880s.
    This is the smallest size bench plane, at 5 3/8 inches, made by Stanley, and sought by collectors. They are uncommon at best, and the early ones are quite rare, especially in very nice condition. 96% japanning remains. The early rosewood handle and short knob are virtually perfect. The plane is very crisp with some patina from age on the bare-metal surfaces, Fine+ ........ $1650.00

STANLEY on the cap. 95% japaning with a bit of dirt. Rosewood handle and tall knob are nice with some tool-box dings and some of the finish missing.   19. STANLEY NO. 7C, JOINTER PLANE, Probably from the early 1950s. Notched-rectangle trademark on the near full-length cutter. 98% japanning with a bit of dust. The nickel plating on the cap is a bit dull. Rosewood handle is very crisp with three small nothces on the right top side for identification. The tall knob has some minor scuffing to the finish.
    A very crisp plane with little use. Has a few small rust spots from age. The left side had a sticker - there is a spot that is a little cleaner. Owner's initials pricked in on the right side, Fine ...... $205.00

  20. STANLEY BEDROCK NO. 607C, JOINTER PLANE, Later model with flat sides and the three adjusting screws behind the frog. The (18)95 and (19)10 patent dates are cast in the bed. T trademark on the cutter with 2 inches of meat left. The cutter has a few small chips and some minor roughness that need some sharpening. BEDROCK on the cap. 90% japanning. Dark rosewood handle and tall knob are crisp but have some tool-box dings. There is some patina and minor roughness on the bare-metal parts. There is a tiny chip at the back of the throat that won't effect use. A very good plane, G++ ............ $295.00

  24. STANLEY NO. 10, CARRIAGE MAKER'S RABBET PLANE, Very close to perfect condition. Notched-rectangle logo on the cutter, which is near full-length, and was made in Feburary,1937. 99% japanning. Very crisp dark rosewood handle and tall knob. There is some light patina on the bare metal surfaces. It is in original condition, so I am leaving it the way it is, the top of the cutter may have been lightly cleaned. There is a tiny chip at the bottom edge of the cutter, which looks like it was from the factory, Fine+ .......... $225.00

This is a prime example of an early transitional (wood bottom) plane. 97% of the original finishes remain. Absolutely hasn't been cleaned. The owner stamped his name on the front and back.   30. STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO., No. 35, SMOOTH PLANE. Wood Bottom (18)92 patent date on the cutter. This is a prime example of an early transitional (wood bottom) plane. 97% of the original finishes remain. There are some paint scuffs on one side (shown) from planing a door or window. That may come off, but I just wanted to leave it original. Absolutely hasn't been cleaned. The only apology is that the owner stamped his name on the top of each side.   1. L. BAILEY'S NO.14 VICTOR COMBINATION PLANE. L. Bailey's Patent July 6, 1875 stamped on the fence.
    Leonard Bailey is probably the best-known American plane manufacturer. He designed the line of planes that were then made by the Stanley Rule & Level Co.
    Because of a disagreement about royalties, Bailey left Stanley, and in 1875, he designed and manufactured the Victor planes. Stanley took him to court and by 1878 got a ruling that Bailey could not make the Victor planes anymore.
    This delicate combination plane is usually found with a broken or missing depth stop or fence. This example is complete and in crisp condition. The nickel plating is dulled and somewhat missing on the handle and front knob, G++ ..................... $1750.00

  2. BIRMINGHAM CARRIAGE-MAKERS T-RABBET PLANE. This is one of my favorites. Streamlined styling with a bat-wing design behind the cutter. This eight-inch, no. 3 size is an example of a rare plane.

    The company was in business from 1885 until 1900.

I find this plane to be very useful because of its small size and low angle. No chips or cracks in the throat. It has 99% of its japanning with a bit of sawdust. Boxed STANLEY NO. 45 COMBINATION PLANE Notched-rectangle logo on the skate. 7 Planes in one ... 1-Beading and Center Beading, 2-Plow, 3-Dado, 4-Rabbet, 5-Match Plane, 6-Sash Plane, 7-Slitting Plane. This one is complete with the long and short rods, four depth stops, cam, screwdriver and extra spurs in their envelope. There is a Sweetheart-marked (1921-35) double-box cutter set with all 23 shiny-nice cutters (two are on the plane). A few have been lightly used. There is some cosmoline for storage, and there are a few spots of minor rust that will go away with sharpening. 99% of the original nickel-plating remains. The rosewood is very crisp.
    The box is great with some minor damage. The original instructions are nice, Fine ......... $450.00

  2. STANLEY NO. 45 COMBINATION PLANE. A very nice plane. Notched-rectangle logo on the skate. This one is complete with the long and short rods, all 4 depth stops, cam, and a box with Sweetheart logo and all 23 original cutters. The cutters are in very nice condition with some minor stain from storage, but could probably use a bit of touch-up sharpening.
    95% of the original nickel-plating remains. Very crisp rosewood handle, fence, and knob.

  3. STANLEY NO. 45 COMBINATION PLANE, An earliy one with the Stanley Rule & Level Co. logo and the 1884 and 1895 patent dates on the skate. Has the long rods, all four depth stops, cam, and a great box with 19 cutters (correct for that era). Missing only the short rods. The cutters are very nice I added the sash and 1/8 cutter which have some stain. 90% nickel plating remains - with some dirt. A great user, G++ ......... $205.00

Boxed STANLEY NO. 50 LIGHT COMBINATION PLANE, Complete with 2 depth stops, the usually-missing cutter holding screw and shaving deflector, and 17 cutters (9 plow, 6 beading and 1 match) that have had very little use (only two have been sharpened) - they have some dirt and original cosmoline on them, in their blue-labeled Stanley box. The plane has about 99% of its nickel plating. The rosewood handle has some light scuffs to the finish. In the original box, which it a little rough, Fine++ ........ $225.00

  8. STANLEY NO. 55 COMBINATION PLANE, Sweetheart logo on the skate and cutter boxes. Complete with long and short rods, all three depth stops, auxiliary center bottom, cam, and all 55 of the original cutters, which are in nearly-new condition with some minor rust on a few of them from storage. That can be lapped out while sharpening.
    97% of the nickel plating remains on the plane with a light dusting of rust in a few places. The dark-rosewood handles and fences are very nice, with some minor rough spots on the small fence, which could use a minor clean-up for use. The cutter boxes are crisp, but there is some bug-damage to the labels.
