Stanley Planes [CLICK TO ORDER]

  1. STANLEY NO. 1 SMOOTH PLANE, Sweetheart trademark on the full-length cutter. 92% of the japanning on the body. Rosewood low knob and handle are crisp. The handle has a sliver off of the top left side.
    This one has been used, but not abused. There has been speculation that carpenters that used a No. 1 held it across the top instead of trying to use the handle and knob. The wear-patterns on this one support that theory, G+ ........ $1425.00

  2. STANLEY NO. 2 SMOOTH PLANE, Sweetheart logo on the cutter - close to full-length. 99% of the japanning on the body remains. The nickel plating on the cap is very nice.   4. STANLEY NO. 3 SMOOTH PLANE, V logo on the cutter with 1 3/4 inches of meat. Stanley on the key-hole cap. 95% of the japanning on the body. Crisp earlier rosewood handle and tall knob.
    This is one that I can't date. The cap and cutter may be a little earlier - it has a frog adjusting screw.
    There is some slight roughness on the bare metal surfaces. Has been lightly cleaned, G+ .... $60.00

  28. STANLEY NO. 10 1/2, CARRIAGE MAKER'S RABBET PLANE, This one is the smooth plane size. (18)92 patent date on the cutter with 3/4 inches of meat left. 93% japanning on the body.   30. STANLEY NO. 20, CIRCULAR PLANE, Early nickel plated model. (18)92 patent date on the cutter, 2-7-(18)93 patent date cast in the body. The heaviest circular plane made by Stanley. It's considered the best one for using. 95% nickel plating remains. There is some stain on the top of the sole from age. The bottom is a lot nicer.   31. STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO., No. 27, JACK PLANE. Wood Bottom (18)92 patent date on the cutter. This is a prime example of an early transitional (wood bottom) plane. 97% of the original finishes remain. Absolutely hasn't been cleaned. The owner stamped his name on the front and back. It has been a long time since I have seen one this nice. Fine+ ............ $165.00

  32. STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO., No. 35, SMOOTH PLANE. Wood Bottom (18)92 patent date on the cutter. This is a prime example of an early transitional (wood bottom) plane. 97% of the original finishes remain. There are some paint scuffs on one side (shown) from planing a door or window. That may come off, but I just wanted to leave it original. Absolutely hasn't been cleaned. The only apology is that the owner stamped his name on the top of each side.   37. STANLEY NO. 48, TONGUE & GROOVE PLANE, Used to make a 5/16 inch tongue and groove joint on 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 inch boards, centering on 7/8 inch stock.   38. STANLEY NO. 48, TONGUE & GROOVE PLANE, Used to make a 5/16 inch tongue and groove joint on 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 inch boards, centering on 7/8 inch stock. An early nickel-plated one with the ivy design on the handle. S casting marks and the same thumb screws as the japanned model, but nickel plated (which I haven't seen before). 80% of the nickel plating remains, G+ ........ $105.00

  39. STANLEY NO. 51 and 52, CHUTE BOARD AND PLANE, Notched-rectangle on the full-length cutter.
    A 21 3/4 inch long cast iron chute board with an adjustable 90-degree fence and hold-down clamp: and a skewed-angle clane that cuts on its side. Used to precisely trim miters for picture framers, cabinetmakers and pattern makers.
    95% of the japanning remains. The hold-down is original but the screw is a replacement and the nut is from a No. 45, which looks the same as the original. The sides of the plane have been lapped and polished. There is a small chip off of the side of the handle.

  40. In the Box STANLEY NO. 71, OPEN-THROAT ROUTER, Looks like it's about the last Made in USA offering from Stanley. Has had little use. Complete with the shoe for closed-throat work, fence, and three cutters. 99+% nickel plating remains - the top is a little dusty. There are a few scuffs on the finish of the handles.   1. EDWIN HAHN NO. 3 SMOOTH PLANE, (No. 4 size) Wilkes-Barre, Penn. 1908-18.
    Hahn was apparently influenced by Siegley, although there is no known connection.
    Aside from an unusual lateral adjuster, the main feature seems to be that the chip-breaker is attached to the cap. Almost all of the japanning remains. Some patina on the bare metal surfaces, G+ ........ $235.00

  3. SARGENT NO. 418, FORE PLANE, (No. 6 size) Sargent VBM (Very Best Made) logo on the cap and cutter with 1 3/4 inches of meat left, date this to ca. 1920. This is a nice example of the No. 6-size jointer plane made by a respectable company. There is a chip on the side of the mahogany handle. There is a short beaded knob. 92% of the japanning remains.   9. STANLEY NO. 55 COMBINATION PLANE. Sweetheart logo on the skate. With this plane you can make an almost unlimited variety of moldings. Complete with long and short rods, 3 depth stops, auxiliary center bottom, cam, screwdriver, and a total of 55 cutters.
    The cutters are in nice, crisp condition. There are a few spots of rust from storage for over 70 years. Honing them on the flat side while sharpening will clean that up.
    The plane was used very little... 98% of the nickel plating remains, with minor dirt.
    Nice dark rosewood handles and fences.
    The hinged wooden box is rare. There are built-in slots on the side to hold the cutters. The labels have some wear, and someone added brass corners to the bottom. I will include a copy of The Stanley Combination Plane, which has complete instructions for the No. 55 , Fine .......... $675.00
