  1. STANLEY NO. 3 SMOOTH PLANE, Notched-rectangle logo on the cutter, with 1 3/4 inches of life left. Looks like WW II vintage. Most of the japanning remains. Nice nickel plating on the cap. Good throat and sole. Some patina on the bare-metal surfaces. The stained hardwood handle is crisp. The tall knob has some tool-box dings. "RADIO" is pricked on the side, G++ .... $85.00

  18. STANLEY NO. 7, JOINTER PLANE, (18)92 patent date on the cutter with 1 3/4 inches of life left. 97% japanning, but it's a bit dusty. Crisp dark rosewood handle with the early forward-sweep, and low knob have some minor tool-box dings. A very nice earlier plane in original condition with 120 years of patina that I have had on the shelf for 15 years and decided to leave it alone. It's hard to get that original condition, G++ ...... $185.00

  21. STANLEY NO. 7C, JOINTER PLANE, Probably from the early 1950s. Notched-rectangle trademark on the near full-length cutter. 98% japanning with a bit of dust. The nickel plating on the cap is a bit dull. Rosewood handle is very crisp with three small nothces on the right top side for identification. The tall knob has some minor scuffing to the finish.
    A very crisp plane with little use. Has a few small rust spots from age. The left side had a sticker - there is a spot that is a little cleaner. Owner's initials pricked in on the right side, Fine ...... $175.00

  22. STANLEY NO. 8 JOINTER PLANE,From the late 1950s. Notched-rectangle logo on the Full-length cutter. 92% japanning. Some loss of nickel plating on the cap. The stained hardwood handle and tall knob are crisp but there is some wear to the finish. There is some roughness on the sole, but it looks like it was machined to be flat.   23. STANLEY BEDROCK NO. 608C, JOINTER PLANE, Later model with flat sides and the three adjusting screws behind the frog, along with the (18)95 and (19)10 patent dates. T trademark on the cutter that is basically full-length. BEDROCK on the cap. The dark rosewood handle and tall knob are quite crisp with some minor tool-box dings. 95% of the japanning remains.   24. STANLEY NO. 10, CARRIAGE MAKER'S RABBET PLANE, Very close to perfect condition. Notched-rectangle logo on the cutter, which is near full-length, and was made in Feburary,1937. 99% japanning. Very crisp dark rosewood handle and tall knob. There is some light patina on the bare metal surfaces. It is in original condition, so I am leaving it the way it is, the top of the cutter may have been lightly cleaned. Needs some sharpening, Fine+ .......... $225.00

  48. STANLEY NO. 90, BULL NOSE RABBET PLANE, Made in USA. Sweetheart logo on the cutter. These are much better and finished a lot nicer than the later ones that were coming out of England.   1. L. BAILEY & CO. VERTICAL POST PLANE. Leonard Bailey's vertical post design led to the design of the modern bench plane. He sold his business to Stanley in 1869. This No. 3 size plane has the Aug. 7, 1855 and Aug. 31, 1858 patent dates on the brass adjusting nut. Moulson Bros. iron.
    Almost all of the japanning remains, with some dust. Correct solid lever cap. There is a small wedge-shaped chip on the back of the base of the beaded front knob, and a glued repair to the handle. A very crisp plane with some light patina, Fine .......... $3000.00

  2. SARGENT NO. 410C SMOOTH PLANE. (Stanley No. 4 1/2). Has the VBM (Very Best Made) logo on the cap, from the 1920s. Full-length cutter marked with the plane number. 95% japanning. The mahogany handle has some scuffs at the tip. Has been lightly cleaned, Fine ........ $175.00

  4. UNION NO. 44 COMBINATION PLANE. Made by Siegley and sold by Union. Complete in the original box. It has the long and short rods, all three depth stops, and flat green box that holds all 18 cutters. The cutters are very nice with minor dirt and cosmoline.
    The box has some damage. The box label and the instructions have some silverfish damage, Fine+ .......... $395.00

  5. FOX MFG. CO. SCRAPER. This very graphic wood-body scraper is from Milwaukee, Wis. It still has most of the colorful decal on the side.
    Fox is stamped on the 3 1/2 inch wide cutter and imbossed on the cap. Overall length is 11 inches. Still very crisp, G++ .......... $295.00

  6. SIEGLEY PATENT PLOW PLANE. TYPE 1. Although Siegley Patent Plow Planes are rather common, this is one of the very few that have an all-metal fence with a micro-dial adjustment. Since Stanley bought out the Siegley company, it is easy to speculate that this is where the idea for the micro-dial fence on the Stanley 45 and 55 came from. Note that on a Siegley, the sliding section and fence go on different sides.

  7. CHAPLIN'S PATENT SMOOTH PLANE.Tower & Lyon Co., Chaplin's Improved smooth plane is 8 1/2 inches long, including the handle overhang.   9. STANLEY RABBET ROUTER PLANE.This is a rare Stanley-made experimental plane designed for some special purpose. A deep center skate was built to cut a fixed-width groove. Rosewood handles.   10. BIRMINGHAM CARRIAGE-MAKERS T-RABBET PLANE. This is one of my favorites. Streamlined styling with a bat-wing design behind the cutter. This eight-inch, no. 3 size is an example of a rare plane.

  11. WESTON'S SIDE-HANDLE BELT PLANE. This one is unmarked, but the patent date was June 1, 1858.
    Early industry was run by water- and steam-power. Factories had a series of shafts and pulleys connected to the power source, running along the ceiling. Wide leather belting was used to transfer the motion from the ceiling to the machines on the floor. These planes were used to cut a wide bevel joint on each side of the belt so they could be sewn together and lie flat.This plane is in nice condition. This one is complete with the long and short rods, four depth stops, cam, screwdriver and extra spurs in their envelope. There is a Sweetheart-marked (1921-35) double-box cutter set with all 23 shiny-nice cutters (two are on the plane). A few have been lightly used. There is some cosmoline for storage, and there are a few spots of minor rust that will go away with sharpening. 99% of the original nickel-plating remains. The rosewood is very crisp.

The cutters are in very nice condition with some minor tarnish from age, but could probably use a bit of touch-up sharpening for use.

  7. Boxed STANLEY NO. 55 COMBINATION PLANE, In the original orange-painted hinged sheel metal box with the cardboard protective sleeve. Sweetheart logo on the skate dates this to the 1930s. Complete with long and short rods, depth stops, auxiliary center bottom, cam, screwdriver, envelope with extra spurs, and original instructions. All 55 cutters fit in slots on the inside of the box.

    There's got to be at least 99% of the nickel plating remaining. The dark rosewood handle, knob and fences are crisp but there are some superficial scuffs from use and storage. The cutters are shiny-nice and have seen little,if any, use. Sharpen them on the flat side, so you don't alter the profile.

    The sheet-metal box is very nice and has been protected by the cradboard sleeve. The sides of the box have some dirt from years of storage.

  8. STANLEY NO. 55 COMBINATION PLANE, Sweetheart logo on the skate and cutter boxes. Complete with long and short rods, all three depth stops, auxiliary center bottom, cam, and all 55 of the original cutters, which are in nearly-new condition with some minor rust on a few of them from storage. That can be lapped out while sharpening.
    97% of the nickel plating remains on the plane with a light dusting of rust in a few places. The dark-rosewood handles and fences are very nice, with some minor rough spots on the small fence, which could use a minor clean-up for use. The cutter boxes are crisp, but there is some bug-damage to the labels.
