  2. P. S. & W. NO. 59 1/2 BRACE. 6 inch sweep, 12 inches long. From the Peck, Stow & Wilcox Company, makers of high-quality tools.
    This one is marked O. D. USA on the ratchet housing, so it was probably used during WW II Ordinance, like the Stanley X-3.
    It is in very nice condition. 96% of the nickel plating remains, The ebonized handle and pad have some tool-box scratches, Fine ........ $70.00

The Lion ball bearing chuck holds regular square-tanged shanks, No. 1 Morse taper shanks, and round shank drills from 1/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter. Boxed ratchet with ring gear. This is a very high-quality brace. The early one with the Leland Patent jaws. Ball-bearing head. Stained hardwood handle and pad is missing most of their finish. Holdall chuck holds round shanks 1/8 to 1/2 inch, No. 1 Morse taper and ALL sizes of bitstock and expansion bits. Missing a lot of the nickel plating, but it's sound and completely functional. Hollow Augers

Hollow augers are used to cut round tenons for making chairs or wagon spokes. They are preceeded with a spoke pointer to make a conical end that centers the hollow auger on the work.


  1. A. A. WOOD & SONS, adjustable hollow auger. These are considered to be the Cadillac of hollow augers. Fully adjustable, cuts from 1/4 to 1 1/4 inch diameters. This one is in solid, user condition, 85% of the shiny black enamel remains. Crisp. A sharpening and tuning of the cutter will have this one ready to go.
    Has been lightly cleaned. A very nice tool. I'll include a copy of the instructions, G++ .......... Sold $135.00

  2. A. A. WOOD & SONS, FORE AUGER. Made to cut a 1 1/4 inch diameter tenon with a tapered shoulder. Will work on stock up to 2 7/8 inch diameter. It has a depth stop.
    This seems to be especially suited for use making twig or pole furniture. The tapered shoulder adds a decorative touch and is a good way to mate the shoulder of the tenon with the curved, irregular surface of another twig. This rare tool is the only I have seen that will do this job.
    About 90% of the black enamel remains. There is some light patina on the bare metal surfaces. Good cutter length. A very crisp example of a rare tool, G++ .......... $165.00

  3. WOOD MFG. CO., ADJUSTABLE HOLLOW AUGER. An early Wood hollow auger with the Aug 10, 1875 and May 7, 1876 patent dates. Cuts any size tenon from 1/4 to 1 1/4 inches. The pivoted clamshell jaws are provided with a graduated scale by which the size of the tenon is regulated. With depth stop. Good cutter length.

Spoke Pointers

Spoke pointers are used to make a conical end on your stock to precede the hollow auger. Provides a firm start that is centered on the work. Dowel pointers are for smaller work, and can be used to chamfer (bevel) the tips of pegs for gluing joints.

  1. In The Box STANLEY SET NO. 32 1/2 QUARTERS, No. 100 SPUR AUGER BITS. In super-nice condition. This a later set made by Stanley, USA
    The genuine Russell Jennings pattern, Extension Lip Auger Bits are made of special analysis steel, forged carefully. The bits in this set have the standard double thread point, and are unsurpassed for accurate work in seasoned woods not extremely gummy or hard.
    Marked on the shank Russell Jennings, No. 100, made in USA and the fraction.
    The set has 13 bits, size 4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16, in 1/16th inch increments. All the sixteenths add up to 32 1/2 quarter-inches, which is where the set number comes from. The bits have had very light use, and are in shiny-nice condition. The spurs and lead-screws are great.
    The outside of the box is very nice, because it was stored in the original cardboard outside box with a Stanley label on the end (and a hole in the front?), Fine++ ................. Sold $195.00

  2. RUSSELL JENNINGS SET NO. 32 1/2 QUARTERS, No. 100 SPUR AUGER BITS. These are the original Russell Jennings pattern, Extension Lip Auger Bits from a hundred years ago. The 1855 and 1876 patent dates are printed on the label in the box. This company and their processes were bought-out by Stanley in the 1940s. They all have the early Russell Jennings mark.
    The bits in this set have the standard double thread point, and are unsurpassed for accurate work in seasoned woods not extremely gummy or hard.
